Eagles Update!

Many times our love for our community shows through our support for our school. We love Eagle Grove and this year we have a great vibe at the HS! Our students have rallied around each other and we have seen bigger crowds in the stands and bigger smiles in the halls. As a community we should be very proud.

Our football team got their first victory of the season and they deserve it, they work hard every day and it is time for a pay day. We are all so proud of them!

Our boys XC team is making an appearance at the State Meet this Saturday in Ft. Dodge, they will be running at 1:30 PM! These guys are a true definition of a team.. they work hard to be the best they can and they give it all they have! We wish them good luck and are so proud of them as well!

We are gearing up for the musical on the weekend of Nov. 14th. They put in many late nights and will be glad to see so many shining faces in the audience!

Gage Behnkendorf made the all-state band and will be performing in November! A huge accomplishment for Gage and what a great way to showcase his musical talents!

We are proud of all our fall athletes and their commitment to our school. Volleyball and girls xc worked hard this season, making huge improvements and contributions to their programs.

We are moving from our fall season into our winter one and we hope for continued support from our community and our students!

Go Eagles! :)

Back to School!

In just a few short weeks we will all be back at EGHS for the start of the 2015-2016 school year! We hope you had an enjoyable summer with lots of fun in the sun :) We hope you all found time to attend registration yesterday August 3rd at the Elementary, if not and you still need to iron out your schedule stop in the high school office to make some changes before school officially starts.

This year we welcome 3 new teachers to our staff, Mr. Nick Smith, science; Mrs. Sherry Leksell, english; and Mr. Rich Thacker, history and athletic director. They will be introducing themselves early on in the school year so stay tuned!

We look forward to a great year at EGHS and we will see each one of you on August 24th!

Go EAGLES :)

2015 EGHS Conferences

Last night we had our first of two days of high school conferences. We always look forward to talking with parents, but it seems like we get very few. Of course we would always like more, especially for me, not being a native of Eagle Grove I don't know a lot of my students parents unless we meet face to face at conferences or ball games. The weather did not help matters much and as they say in like a lamb out like a lion :)

But I would say for me this was one of the best conference nights we have had in awhile, meet 3 of our freshman boys (there were a few more but these guys stuck out the entire night!)

Garett, Chase, Colton

Most teenagers can find something better to do on Tuesday night for 4 hours than hang out with a bunch of teachers in a gym but I am glad these three didn't, on a night that can be a little bland they brought some laughs to EGHS conferences!

Often times as teachers I think we forget the impact we can make every day, but these 3 prove the impact we often make is not on their knowledge of Earth history but that we care about them, that we are here to support them and they in return will make us laugh and make us proud :)

Eagle Speech/Haugland Classroom Update

Science and health are in full swing for the second semester. We are studying earth science as part of our general science curriculum, which allows us to studying interesting topics such as the planets, stars, formation of the universe before we get into the meat of earth science. One of my favorites is the planet alien project where students develop realistic planets and aliens that could survive the conditions of the planet. It is a great lead into how our characteristics as humans perfectly align with the conditions of planet earth. (gives them a new appreciation you could say)
I also am teaching a full semester course of earth science. This year we started with natural disasters including earthquakes and volcanoes. Students created earthquake proof structures that we tested with a shake board. They all survived although some were leaning pretty far! They would all make wonderful engineers! We have moved into how we affect our planet and its systems. Students are creating PSA's, hopefully, I will be able to post soon. Students will also be implementing their solution into our community so I am excited to see how that goes!

The Eagle speech team has been hard at work this season, hard to believe we start our final competition series on Saturday Feb. 28th. We will be traveling to Clear Lake for district individual contest. We are currently sending 19 students in 27 events, plain and simple it is a great time to be an Eagle. At our state large group competition in Decorah, we had two teams receive overall one ratings with our short film and ensemble acting teams. We are looking for growth as the seasons continue and the hard work the students put in is paying off. That combined with the success of our winter sports teams has made for an enjoyable winter season.

Enjoy your Tuesday!
